Biography of the Pawtucket Arts Council
The Pawtucket Arts Council was incorporated in August, 1975 as a non-profit corporation for the purposes of providing arts activities and also arts education. Among its most popular events was the Galway Kinnell Poetry Contest. The Arts Council collaborated with similar organizations throughout Rhode Island and the New England area. The Pawtucket Arts Council ceased operating in 2004 due to financial issues.

Scope and Content of Collection
The collection contains the papers of the Pawtucket Arts Council. The collection contains both documents and ephemeral material. The collection includes official correspondence, financial documents, personal correspondence, newspaper and media clippings, and miscellaneous documents.

There are no restrictions on access.

Johnson Pawtucket History Research Center (PHRC).  Although the PHRC has physical ownership of the collection and the materials contained therein, it does not claim literary rights. It is up to the researcher to determine the owners of the literary rights and to obtain any necessary permission from them.

Provenance and Acquisition Information
The papers were given to the PHRC by the Pawtucket Arts Council. They were received in numerous boxes with a sense of order. The materials were rearranged chronologically in folders and separated into series that reflect their subject.
